Design Technology

Design is thinking made visible

- Soul Bass

Intent

As designers we do not just stop at our curiosity of how things work but instead look at how we can think creatively to problem solve and make products even better.

At Manor Primary School we have an understanding of the diversity of the world and the importance of exposing our children to a wide range of products that can inspire their curiosity and creativity, as well as the thought-processes involved in creating such products.

We have chosen to use Kapow's Scheme for Design and Technology as we believe it offers a thorough and in depth progressive Curriculum which is matched to the National Curriculum.

Implementation

The aims of the Design and Technology curriculum will be achieved by:

  • Developing practical, creative and technical skills needed to take part in an increasingly technological world.
  • Building and applying a knowledge, understanding and skills in order to design and make high quality products.
  • Testing and evaluating ideas in order to improve own and others products.
  • Understanding and using principles of nutrition and using these to learn how to cook.

Impact

We will measure impact of this through:

  • Monitoring of the curriculum
  • Book/planning scrutinies
  • Learning walks
  • End of unit assessments
  • End of year assessments
