"Geography is the subject
which holds the key to our future"
Michael Palin
INTENT
Our aim is to shape our children into curious and considerate global citizens.
We aim to shape a sense of awe and wonder about the world and its people. They will enjoy learning about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments.
By the time our children leave Manor Primary School, they will be well equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to explore the world around them and have greater understanding of our planet.
IMPLEMENTATION
At Manor Primary school children are taught as mixed ability classes. There are 3 Geography topics covered in each year group that are studied for 3 half terms. Each topic is taught as a sequence of lessons, including a question to answer as the learning objective, key activities and sticky knowledge. Each lesson clearly identifies what we want them to know. This is shared with the children and is revisited at the end of the lesson and the start of the next lesson. The tasks throughout the lessons ensure that the children are able to use this knowledge Retrieval activities are used at the beginning of every lesson to ensure children are constantly revisiting and remembering what they have learnt. The teaching of geography provides opportunities for: group work, mixed ability work, whole class teaching, independent work, peer assessment and self-assessment
