To respond to some very helpful comments made by our parents we have decided at Manor to lend a hand, where possible, to make sure that your children are offered some non-screen activities to support or enhance their learning particularly on Tuesdays. Nearly all of our EYFS remote learning has non-screen learning opportunities with only 'screen-time' enhancements, however today you can try some of our alternative 'non-screen' opportunities to take the pressure off of your technology devices and enhance your child's wellbeing. For parents who wish to continue with our full remote learning opportunities then I have detailed these below also. We hope you have lots of fun!
09:30-09:40 - Phonics Revision
Begin by revising the sounds your child has learnt (Set 1-3) by playing this flash card game;

Practice the sound with your child as it appears on the screen.
TIME OUT TUESDAY ALTERNATIVE
Write the sounds on pieces of paper and place them on the floor. Call out a sound for your child to leap frog onto and watch them jump around the room or garden!
Send me a message to let me know how they got on, did they remember any before they heard the sound? Do they recognise any of the sounds they see in the environment?
09:40-10:00 - Recognising Old Sounds & Realising New sound!
Remind your child about the game 'Cross The River'! Place across your learning space something for them to jump over, it could be material, paper or other items, this will be your river! Next you will need slips of paper or a pad to write on, this will be your child's passport to cross!
Part 1) Write, s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g, o, c, k, e, u and r onto the paper call out a sound and you're child has to find it before they can cross.
Part 2) Write lots of simple CVC/CVCC words using the sounds above (rug, rat, rip etc). This time you're child can only cross the river if they can find a word which has an 'r' in it etc.
Have fun repeating the game as many times as you're child is interested.

Introduce the digraph sound 'oi' (cup your hand by your mouth and shout 'oi') using the PowerPoint below.

TIME OUT TUESDAY ALTERNATIVE
Write some 'oi' CVC words onto slips of paper, challenge your child to sound them out and then blend to read them.
Now practice writing 'oi' remember we form the letters by:
o - "all around the orange"
i - "down the body and dot the head"
Challenge your child to independently write the following words:
"oil, coin, soil, foil, coil"
Upload a photo of their work to Dojo.
09:50-10:00 - Phonics Phase 2 - Part 2- Writing Captions & Sentences
Now that your child has learnt the 'oi' digraph challenge them to independently write the following captions (Remember finger spaces between words, or if your child is left handed then remind them to leave a gap):
"mud and soil"
"flush the toilet"
And the sentence:
"Wrap the coin in foil."
(Remember a sentence must include a capital letter and a full stop)
Take a picture of your child's work and up load to dojo it for me to see.

10:10-10:30 - Main Activity
Re-introduce your child to a number line. Here's a clip if you need to refresh your memory;
Now return to some of the word problems from last week's work. Using the number line continue the idea of 'what we have' and 'what we don't have'.
Support your child in using the number line to solve some of the word problems, or to solve some new ones you create today for them. Remember begin why establishing 'what we have' and then taking-away 'what we don't have'. Try chalking a big one outside for them to jump around on to practically solve the problems. Remember to record your explorations as a calculation e.g. '9-3=6' or '2=5-3'.

10:45-11:15
Today we will continue exploring 'friendship'. Begin by watching the cbeebies friendship song asking the question "What's the best thin about having a friend?";
Explain that sometimes we fall out with our friend. Ask your child to think of a time that they 'fell out' with someone. Challenge them to think about how they felt when this happened and write down what they say.
Ask them to tell you what they did to 'make-up' again then ask them other things that they could have done or might do next time it happens. Make a list of their ideas.
Finally ask your child to draw a picture of them playing with their friends.
Send me a picture on Dojo so I can share in their ideas.
11:15-11:30 - This Week's Book is "Kit's Kip!'
Begin by talking about the pictures. Ask them questions such as "What can you see, where are they, what are they doing, who is there and why? Once you have talked about the 'picture clues' challenge your child to read the words. Children should be able to identify, segment and blend the words with minimal support.
11:30-12:00 - Main Activity
Continue your party art for your Zoom Party on Friday. Remember to make party hats, party decorations, party craft costumes, party place mats, party accessories! Then you can decorate your space ready for our Friday celebration!!!
