1) Your child will revising the Phase 3 sounds 'ow', 'ow' and 'oi' - Support them by challenging them to write the following words independently using their sounding out and segmenting skills, please do not assist them,
Now challenge them to independently write the following sentence without any assistance from you,
This week your child will be revising 'addition' with values of up to 20. You can support your child's learning by completing the following challenges;
1) Reciting our addition chant 'Addition is having what you have then getting MORE', understanding this simple idea is the key to distinguishing between the different calculation expectations.
2) Using up to 20 everyday items or toys set your child some simple 'single digit', 'addition' calculations for them to solve using the items you provided. If you want to challenge your child, try giving them a 'number line' to complete their calculation identifying what is the 'difference' between what they had at the start and what they ended up with.
As it's the beginning of our new topic 'holidays then holidays now' Sit with your child and take time to share pictures and family movies of family holiday and day trip pictures before COVID-19. Support your child in drawing three memory bubbles of the favourite times they remember. Now show your child some pictures of your childhood holidays. Challenge them to think about what is the same and what is different!
